This page describes my printing and packaging workflow in detail.

Images are initially scanned and stored in the computer. From there, critical contrast, color balance and sharpness are fine-tuned in Photoshop. Any dust or blemishes are meticulously removed.

2

When the resulting file is deemed ready for printing, prints are created using an Epson Stylus Pro 4800 printer. The paper I use almost exclusively is Epson's Premium Luster Photo paper. This paper is similar in look and feel to traditional Type R resin coated photographic papers. The paper is sort of a middle ground between pure glossy stock and a flat matte stock. The surface of the paper has a fine pebbly feel, with a medium sheen to it. The paper is surprisingly water and scratch resistant. Prints are then left to air dry a minimum of 6 hours to give the ink a chance to cure before packaging.

Prints are dated, numbered and titled...

...as well as signed on the back.

5

Note the identifying text that appears on the back of the print. This is to indicate authenticity, should the print be removed from the provided mounting board.

6

Print is then centered onto acid-free backing board.

The framing matboard is conservation quality rag mat. The 100% cotton core and backing paper are naturally acid free and lignin free. The color of the mat board is off white.

7

Prints are mounted to the backing board using archival, acid-free mounting tape. The adhesive on this tape is water activated. This provides a secure bond, but also allows you to easily remove the print from the backing board at any time.

The prints are mounted using a T-Hinge method. This method provides a free-hanging mount that is secure, yet minimizes the chance of the print ever tearing, should there be an accidental fumble.

Note also how the matboard is attached to the backing board. The method I use is a simple hinge. When the matboard is closed over the print, the mounting material is hidden from view. This provides a clean and discrete presentation.

8

This is a back view of the T-Hinge mount. Note the minimal contact of the tape to the backside of the print. If you want to remove the print from the backing board, all that you need to do is moisten the tape with a Q-Tip and water. As the water penetrates the tape, the adhesive loosens, allowing you to easily remove the tape from the back of the print. Any residue left over can then be cleaned up with a Q-Tip and more water.

9

An identifying card is affixed to the back of the mounting board with acid-free adhesive. The name of the print, reference number and contact information appears on the card.

The back of the mounting board is also signed and dated.

10

The matted print is then placed inside a polypropylene envelope for first level protection.

11

Print is packaged with signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity along with business card and FAQ sheet.

12

Contents then wrapped in kraft paper for second level protection.

13

Contents are then placed inside of rigid cardboard mailer for third level protection.

Mailer is addressed and sealed. Ready for the Post Office!
